Jennifer Lowe
Jennifer has cerebral palsy, and is unable to speak, walk, or control her
extremities how she wishes. Therefore, she uses an augmentative
communication device to speak and gets around in a wheelchair.
Jennifer earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Specialized
Studies from Edinboro University. She had two concentrations to her degree
- Special Education and Writing. Since she earned that degree, she has
obtained a few positions. She is the Executive Director of SHOUT and the
Lead Ambassador of The Pittsburgh Ambassador Program. As the Executive
Director of Shout, she fundraises for their Pittsburgh Employment Conference.
As the Lead Ambassador of The Pittsburgh Ambassador Program, she chairs monthly
meetings, corresponds with other Ambassadors through the phone, e-mail, and
instant messengers. She also encourages and accompanies them to various
speaking engagements, and facilitates them to be as independent as they can be
with their AAC.
A few years ago, Jennifer took on a position with the
Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network. PaTTAN is
affiliated with the Special Education Department in the Pittsburgh Public School
System. Her duties are compiling information on new augmentative
communication devices and working in transition.
